A Compendium of Official Documents Relative to Native Affairs in the South Island. Volume Two.

The Secretary for Public Works, to Alexander Mackay, Esq., Native Commissioner

The Secretary for Public Works, to Alexander Mackay, Esq., Native Commissioner.

Public Works Office, Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand, April 3rd, 1871.

Sir,—

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of 2nd ultimo, addressed to the Chief Surveyor, recommending the reservation of a site of an old fishing pah at Wairewa, in exchange for Native reserve No. 890, also at Little river. In reply, I am directed to inform you that the Government fully concurs in your recommendation, and would suggest the publication of a notice in the New Zealand Gazette similar to that of the 20th June, 1868, reserving No. 890, stating that the proposed reserve was made in lieu of the former.

I have, &c.,

Walter Kenneway,
Secretary for Public Works.

Alexander Mackay, Esq., Native Commissioner.
