Nelson, February 9th, 1849.

Sir,

We have to acknowledge the receipt of your favour of yesterday, in which you acquaint us that the Board of Management of Native Reserves is desirious of obtaining the sections in that district Nos. 181, 184, 190, 210, and 211, they having been partially cultivated by the Maoris in that neighbourhood; and also that His Honor the Superintendent proposes to exchange with the respective owners of these sections, other sections belonging to the Native Trust, having the orders page 281of choice respectively 88, 89, 108, 122, 128, the proposition being understood to rest upon the supposition that such arrangement will be effected with the Natives interested.

In reply, we have to state our willingness to forward the arrangement contemplated, as far as his in our power; we would, therefore, wish it to be understood
