The Lighthouse Reserve

The Lighthouse Reserve.

Mr. Turton stated that with regard to the beach in dispute, an arrangement had been made by which the use of the landing-place was secured to the Provincial Government, until a final arrangement was completed.

The Chief Judge said that with regard to the reserve, the Court would take the fence as the boundary, giving the acre inside the block which had been previously reserved to the Natives. Judgment would go for the 18 acres. Had not the claimants accepted this, the Court would have been bound to go further and reduce the amount to 10 acres. There was no doubt that Pukekura was the top of a volcanic mountain, which gave its name to the whole district. But as there seemed to be an agreement respecting it, judgment would be delivered accordingly.
