A Compendium of Official Documents Relative to Native Affairs in the South Island. Volume Two.

No. 3. — The Rev. James W. Stack, to the Hon. the Native Minister

No. 3.
The Rev. James W. Stack, to the Hon. the Native Minister.

St. Stephen's, Kaiapoi, March 27th, 1865.

Sir,—

I shall be glad to know whether it is the intention of the General Government to support the Kaiapoi Native boarding school. The buildings, which were erected by the aid of grants from the General and Provincial Governments, were completed more than a year ago; but the school was not opened for want of funds.

On the failure of my application for assistance to the Native Minister (Mr. Fox), the Provincial Government offered to lend me £200, provided that sum was refunded by the General Government. I have already received £50, but before I draw any more from the loan, I should be glad to know whether you will sanction the arrangement, and whether I can receive an annual grant out of the money set apart for the education of the Natives.

I have, &c.,

James W. Stack.

The Hon. the Native Minister.
