Sir,—
In reply to your letter of the 16th August last, enclosing copy of a letter addressed by you to His Excellency the Governor regarding a Native boarding school at Kaiapoi, and applying for a grant for the salary of a teacher, I have the honour, by direction of the Honorable Mr. Fox, to inform you that there is no fund available for this purpose. The provisions of "The Education Act" do not meet the case.
