No. 15.
Mr. Wm. McCltoe, to G. S. Cooper, Esq., Acting Under Secretary, Native Office.
Sir,—
I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter, dated 24th August, accepting my offer for instructing the Maori and half-caste children here.
Since the receipt of which, I have visited their pah, but the Native Chief (Solomon) is now at Temuka, and the Maoris told me they could do nothing in the matter until he returns, which will be, as I am in, informed about the space of three or four weeks.
Will you kindly inform me whether the Government intends forwarding books, &c., for their use, or am I to procure them, and charge for the same in the quarterly returns?
I have, &c.,
W. McClune.
G. S. Cooper, Esq., Acting Under Secretary,
Native Department, Wellington.
