Sir,—

I am directed by Mr. Richmond to inform you, as solicitor to John Topi Patuki, of Ruapuke, that His Excellency has been pleased to assent to the prayer of the petition presented by the above-named Native, and to allow him to use the name of the Crown in taking proceedings to obtain a repeal of the grant of the land known as the Princes Street Reserve, Dunedin, either by scire facias, if he is advised that such proceeding is applicable, or in such other proceedings as he may be advised to take.

It will be understood that in granting this request the Government expresses no opinion as to the validity or invalidity of the grant.
