My Dear Mummy,
I write this
at the portal of Winchester Col-
lege, en route to Brittany, to
say that I shall probably miss
the mail this week via America,
& that my next two or three letters
will come by way of Australia
(I suppose).
This is the most charming
old place, with a High Street
full of 18th century bow-windowed
shops, à la Jane Austen. We
paid a pious pilgrimage to her
tomb in the cathedral. [unclear: Close]
beautiful — lawns, trees, grave-
stones &c

Later, at tea. Looks as if we
are going to be in a fearful
rush again, as last year, always
wanting to stay a day extra in
every place. We are going to
do a bit of walking in Brittany
if possible, see
MontSt Michel &c, &
then move on to Paris. Then
if cash holds out to [unclear: Bupes],
but I doubt if there will be
anything left.
Weather one day out
excellent.
