Bridge Working Party and After Finals Bash:

After a sleepless night, two weary trampers arrived at Alloway-Dickson at 7.3O on Thursday morning to find the advance party who were supposed to be at Cone by now, still in bed. After much abuse and a leisurely breakfast the whole party set off for Cone, arriving in time for lunch.

Friday dawned dismal and wet and the party straggled up to the bridge which was soon the scene of feverish activity, particularly on the part of Les, and Pop, the cairn-building experts. Undaunted by such jibes as "That mortar looks more like dry porridge to me", "It'll get washed away in the first heavy rain“, the intrepid cairn-builders worked on until finally an imposing monument stood as evidence of their craftmanship. After lovingly covering the cairn with a Parka to keep off the rain during the night the party retired to Cone Hut to eat and sleep.

On Saturday morning the unbelievable had happened. The river was a raging torrent and the bridge had to be used. Bull Mound Creek was reached without mishap but after one member of the party has been plucked from the wire hand-rail and swept downstream we decided that the only way to cross was to climb over a fallen tree which bridges the creek a little way up stream. Omega Greek was crossed in the same manner and it was a wet and miserable party which arrived. at Alloway-Dickson in the afternoon.

Miscellaneous bods continued to arrive all afternoon, and by 7 p.m. tea was over and the stage was set for the main business of the weekend — the Bash. I'm afraid I am not very qualified to say in detail what happened at the bash, but let it suffice to say that at midnight only two people were going strong, and they too soon hit the sack and fell into a very deep sleep.
