[Sydney Daily Telegraph Newspaper Company consent to verdicts]

The Sydney Daily Telegraph Newspaper Company have consented to verdicts awarding the plaintiffs nominal damages in two libel actions recently brought against it. In the first case Mr Kelly, M.L.A., sought for £1,000 damages for a libel contained in some comment on the proceedings of the Assembly which the defendants admitted was open to a libellous construction that it was not intended to bear. In the second case W. Price, of Queenbeyan, claimed £1,000 damages for a libel, arising out of a mistake made by the defendants in referring to him as having been guilty of fraud under the Stamp Act, the real culprit being another person of the same name. A verdict for the plaintiff of 40s was entered in each case. The more important action, brought by Mr Dibbs, M.L.A., who claims £10,000 damages, is still hanging over the head of the company.
