Typo: A Monthly Newspaper and Literary Review, Volume 2

[trade dispatches]

With the departing year the Northern Wairoa Gazette has faded away.

The Auckland Boman Catholic organ, the Advocate, is now published weekly.

The New Zealand Musical Monthly is the name of a new venture, by Mr James S. Algie, of Balclutha. We have not seen a copy, but find it favorably reviewed in our southern exchanges. As this is the only musical periodical in the colony, it should prove a success.

The Catholic Times is the name of a new weekly started in Wellington. In size and style it resembles its successful Dunedin contemporary.—The difference will probably be found in the figures at the foot of the half-yearly balance sheets.

The prospectus of a new « Protestant » organ, The Watchman, has appeared in Wellington. The promoters seem to have learned nothing from the Truth episode. The money wasted on that wretched sheet was enough to have placed that well-conducted paper, the Protestant Ensign, in an independent position. Local jealousies have hitherto choked off the best representative organs in the colony. Some day societies and denominations will realize that union is necessary to progress.
