Praise for the Railways

Praise for the Railways

The following is the text of a letter received by the Chairman of the Government Railways Board (Mr. H. H. Sterling), from the Secretary of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand, in connection with the conveyance of stock by special train to and from (he Royal Show at Auckland: —

It gives me much pleasure to draw the attention of your Board to the efficient and considerate manner in which Railway Department officials transported Royal Show stock to Auckland by special train from Palmerston North.

In making arrangements for this train I received courteous help from Messrs. W. Schierning (Traffic Manager), A. T. Parkes, and F. Wilson (Train Running), and the success of the trip was largely due to the desire of these gentlemen to meet my wishes in every way.

Mr. R. V. Brown, of Levin, was the attendant in charge of the train, and he has reported that Messrs. A. H. Northover (S.M. at Palmerstou North) and F. Ball (S.M. at Remuera) did everything possible to co-operate with stock exhibitors.

I would also like to draw your Board's attention to the fact that Mr. P. J. Murray, in charge of the through booking office, Waterloo Quay, did his utmost to help exhibitors from the South Island.

All the exhibitors from the southern end of this island who travelled by the special stock train were loud in their praises of the help ajid co-operation extended to them by the Department.

Mr. Twaddle, the exhibitor from the longest distance, has asked me to convey his personal thanks for the. attention and consideration extended to him on his long journey.
