Popular Cheap Outings

Popular Cheap Outings

The cheap Saturday and Sunday fares along the Wellington-Palmerston North route have certainly taken the popular fancy this summer. In the four weeks ended the 7th January there were 25,000 passenger journeys made in this area on Saturdays and Sundays as against 13,000 in the corresponding period of last year, or an increase of 12,000 week-end train travellers on this route alone. The “mystery trains” run earlier in the year did much to familiarise the people of Wellington with the many and varied beach attractions along the western coast, while cheap fares and the warm, fine summer have helped to swing new traffic to these charming holiday resorts.
