Haeata

page 61

Haeata

Haeata newly waken'd,
Seated on her throne of blue,
Push'd aside Night's purple curtains
Heavy with the midnight dew;
Spread her mantle o'er the skyline—
Rose and pink, and orange-gold—
Loos'd her tresses soft and filmy,
Screens against Ra's2 glances bold.
Sweet her breath as budding roses,
In her blushes hide delights,
Painting Heaven a blaze of glory
Cameo'd in opal lights.
Tara3 peering ‘neath her footstool
Smiles and winks in impish glee,
Clutching Ata's4 pink-tipp'd fingers
Reaching out beyond the Sea….
Reaching out to Ruapehu
Where the goblin shadows hide,
Waiting for black Kengo's5 coming,
Creeping down the glacier's side.
