The Tourist League Review

The Tourist League Review

The Fourth Annual Review of the New Zealand Tourist League contains the following appreciative references to railway enterprise in New Zealand.

Another suggestion that was put forward through the League was what is termed in America a “land cruise” by train. In October a party of 60 members of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce and a number of Government officials, made a ten days' tour of the Auckland Province in a splendidly equipped train of sleepers, lounge, kitchen, shower and day cars. Those participating speak in the highest terms of the comfort, organisation and the reception by the communities visited. Perhaps as this was so successful, the idea will be extended later to other groups and the general public. With the completion of one or two lines now under construction in the North Island, it will be made a lot easier for the Department.

This is the place. Stand still, my steed,
Let me review the scene,
And summon from the shadowy Past
The forms that once have been.
