Foreword.

These do not pretend to be literature. They are simply rhymes on their birds for the children of our country. The originals appeared in the “Sun,” Christchurch, “The Month,” Auckland, and the “Times,” Wellington. The series owes its existence to the suggestion of a valued friend, and to the interest of C. A. Marris and Percy Crisp, who are always ready to help any national and literary effort in New Zealand.
