The Gannet
The Gannet
Gannet, I see you, out on Kidnappers,
Grey like the water and white like the foam,
Oh, if I had the luck, I would be the Gannet,
I would be travelling, and you would be at home.
Oh, I have seen you lying on the waters,
All I could see was white herds, and white herds,
A sea of sleepy Gannets—or a sea of lilies?
Shining and shaking—a meadow of birds.
Gannet, O Gannet, which is the dearest?
Sky, land, and water—you have all three!
“My wing for the sky, my breast for the seashore,
But my heart, oh, my heart, for the wandering sea!”
