Mr. Leonard Wright Petchell was born at Inchclutha, Otago, in 1856, and received his education at his birthplace and at Riverton. He was for some years a member of the Riverton Borough Council, and also of the Wallace and Fiord Hospital Trust. In 1899, he married Miss A. H. Williams, and has one daughter. Mrs Petchell is the eldest daughter of the late Mr A. M. Williams, of Auckland. In the year 1890, she entered the Dunedin page 935 Hospital, as a probationer, and obtained her final certificate of competency in 1892. She was then appointed charge nurse of the children's and female medical ward, and after wards nurse of the male surgical ward, of that hospital; and in 1896 she was chosen to fill the position of matron of the Wallace and Fiord Hospital.
