Waikino

page break

Waikino.

Waikino is about six miles from Waihi on the road to Karangahake and Paeroa, and at the junction of the road which branches off to Waitekauri. It has sprung up in connection with the Victoria battery, which has been placed in the neighbourhood, in consequence of the large supply of water available. The township has a hotel, two stores, two butcheries and a bakery, and several boarding-houses. It is in a gorge formed by the Ohinemuri river, on the same side as the main road, and is connected with the battery by a bridge.
