Whangarei Hotel

Whangarei Hotel (Samuel McMahon, proprietor), Cameron Street, Whangarei. Bankers, Bank of New Zealand. This house is a fine two-storey building erected in 1891 and was taken over by the present proprietor in August of that year. It is very centrally situated in the main street of the borough and contains twenty-five rooms, including a billiard room furnished with a full-sized table by Alcock. The dining-room is considered the largest in the district and can comfortably accommodate forty persons, and an excellent table being kept, it receives a large amount of patronage. The cellars of the Whangarei Hotel are stocked with none but the best brands of wines and spirits. A sixteen stall stable, which has a number of loose boxes, provides good baiting accommodation for horses.
