Mr. Roger Lupton

Mr. Roger Lupton, Headmaster of Whangarei High School, is one of a family who have been engaged in the scholastic profession many years. He was educated partly at the Hoddesdon Grammar School and partly by his father, one of the earliest and best known “coaches” for Army and Civil Service examinations and author of several standard school books. Mr. Lupton occupied successively posts as assistant-master in the Nottingham High School and science master in the Macelesfield Grammar School, giving up the latter position to study biology at the Normal School of Science, Kensington. On completing his course in that institution he devoted himself to preparing pupils for the various public examinations and was for three years mathematical tutor with the Rev. W. Hiley, M.A., a well-known “coach.” His health falling, Mr. Lupton went to California and spent two years there at fruitgrowing. While returning to England in 1891, via the Australian Colonies, he determined to remain in New Zealand, and after being five years in the colony accepted his present position.
