Towai is in the Bay of Islands County, and lies 121 miles to the north-east of Auckland, with which it is connected by a twice-a-week mail service. The district is devoted to farming, and may be reached by two routes: by steamer to Opua, then by rail to Kawakawa, and thence by coach; or by steamer to Whangarei, then by rail to Whakapara, and thence also by coach.
