Taheke.

Taheke is a settlement in Hokianga County on the coach road from Kawakawa to Rawene. It is 190 miles north of Auckland, and has a weekly mail service.

Glover, George, J. P., Gum Buyer and General Storekeeper, Taheke. Bankers, Bank of New Zealand. Business established by the present proprietor in 1887. Mr. Glover, who does an excellent gum trade, has premises covering 700 square feet of floor space, besides gum sorting and packing sheds specially constructed for the purpose. A most complete stock of goods required for a country store is kept always in hand. Mr. Glover was born in London-derry in 1855, and served several years in a general store before coming to New Zealand via Australia per ship “Chimborazo” in 1880. He was for two years in business at Kaikohe. Mr. Glover was elected a member of the Hokianga County Council in 1895, and received his commission as a Justice of the Peace in 1898.

Mr. Robert Davidson, Manager of Mr. G. Glover's Branch Store at Kaniga Kuwharu, was born in Derry, Ireland, in 1853, educated at the Royal Academical School, Belfast, and served six years in the linen trade in that city, having charge of the sample rooms of Messrs. William Spotten and Co., a large export firm. Mr. Davidson then tried farming, afterwards coming to the Colonies per ship “Rimutaka” in 1893 and two years later removed to Taheke to take charge of Mr. Glover's branch business.
