He then came north and was at Parihaka during the Te Whiti trouble, after which he joined the constabulary for some time, then took a situation in a store in Auckland for about two years. After that he took up a village settlement at Herekino, and finally after some experience on the gumfields and qualifying as an expert in the gum trade, he started business in 1893 in Mangatete, where he has remained ever since. He keeps an extensive stock on nand of groceries, boots, drapery, etc., etc. His principal interest, however, is in gum, in which he deals largely through his Auckland agents, Messrs. L. D. Nathan and Co. Mr. Burgoyne is an active member of the English church of Kaitaia. He is married to a daughter of the late Mr. Thomas Martin, of Mongonui.
