Mckay, Alexander
Mckay, Alexander, Storekeeper, Fairburn. Bankers, Bank of New South Wales, Auckland. Mr. McKay was born in London and was a book-keeper there for fourteen years, after undergoing a previous mercantile experience of four years in Montreal, Canada. He made up his mind to emigrate to New Zealand, and in 1892 arrived in the s.s. “Ionic” Shortly after his arrival he went north and took up 150 acres of partly improved land. Mr. McKay, finding there was a good opening for business at Fairburn, established his present store in 1893, and has now a rapidly increasing trade.
