Flavell, Joseph
Flavell, Joseph, Saddler and Harness-maker, Peria, near Oruru. Mr. Flavell established himself as above in 1804, and has gained an excellent connection. He is a thoroughly experienced tradesman, and popular with both Europeans and natives. Visitors to the neighbourhood of Peria, who may be in need of saddlery, are recommended to give him a call. Mr. Flavell was born at Rangiaohia in 1841 and is a member of the Rarawa tribe. He can remember the great fight in 1845 between the chiefs Nopera and Pororna, which resulted in the death of the two principal combatants and many of their followers. Mr. Flavell learned his trade at Mongonui, Kawakawa, and Hokianga.
