Opua

Opua.

Opua is a coaling station in the Bay of Islands for intercolonial and coastal steamers, which berth at the wharf and receive coal brought by rail from the Kawakawa mines. It is 151 miles from Auckland and a few miles from Kawakawa, and has a telephone service and a combined post and railway office.

Mr. Morris carries on a very comfortable business throughout the district. He has been a settler in the Bay of Islands for nearly thirty years and is well and favourably known. His accommodation house is a two-storey building, well furnished throughout, and contains a number of pleasant bedrooms, and a good table is provided to meet the wants of the general travelling public. Mr. Morris was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1846, and from the age of twelve led a seafaring life till he came to New Zealand in 1869. In 1875, he removed to the Bay of Islands and opened his establishment at Opua.
