Whimp, Henry

Whimp, Henry, Storekeeper, Opuawanga. Mr. Whimp was born in Yorkshire in 1833, spent his early days in agricultural employment in various parts of England, and emigrated to Australia in 1864. He was in business in Victoria for a while, then removed to North Queensland. Owing to illness and the extreme climate, Mr. Whimp sold his business and came to New Zealand in 1869. He was one of the first to settle in Opuawhanga, where he established his present business in 1880. He owns a farm of 229 acres on which he has carried out considerable improvements. Mr. Whimp has for years been an active member of the local school committee and road board, and has been chairman on several occasions. At one time he represented the Ngunguru riding on the Whangarei County Council.
