Mr. Cecil Hartridge

Mr. Cecil Hartridge, whose name is so well known in connection with the mining industry of New Zealand, is the second son of Mr. W. R. Hartridge, of the London Stock Exchange, and grandson of Mr. Deputy Hartridge, chairman of the Royal Swedish Railway Company, and vice-chairman of the Bombay-Baroda and Central India Railway Company. Mr. Hartridge was born in London in 1863, and educated by means of private tuition. He subsequently became a member of the London Stock Exchange, and succeeded to a partnership in the old established firm of stockbrokers, Messrs. W. R. Hartridge and Co. He is a member of the Court of Worshipful Company of Horners, and also a member of the Crouch Lodge of Freemasons, London. Mr. Hartridge is largely connected with the gold mining industry of New Zealand, being a director of the famous Hauraki Gold Mine, which, in two years from its formation, paid over £200,000 upon a capital of £40,000. He is chairman of the Western Explorers, Ltd., a London syndicate interested in New Zealand, and has been instrumental in introducing over half a million of money into New Zealand mining ventures, the best part of which will be expended in the Colony, in the purchase of machinery and payment of wages. Mr. Hartridge is married to a daughter of Captain Bowen Pain, R.N.R., of Deal, England, and has two sons.
