Mr. George Schwartz Kissling

Mr. George Schwartz Kissling, Secretary of the Waiotahi Gold Mining Company, Secretary and Attorney of the New Zealand and River Plate Land Mortgage Company, also carries on business as a General Agent at 6 Wyndham Street, Auckland. P.O. Box 360. Telephone 1007. Mr. G. S. Kissling, who is a son of the Venerable G. A. Kissling, sometime Archdeacon of Waitemata, was born in Welton, Yorkshire, England, in 1841. In 1842 he was brought out to New Zealand, and was educated at St. John's College, Auckland. When fourteen years of age he left the college to take up a position in the Union Bank, wherein he found employment for five years. He then entered the service of the Bank of New Zealand, and subsequently became manager of the Auckland branch. In 1889 Mr. Kissling resigned that position, and has since been engaged in general business on his own account. Throughout the mining boom period Mr. Kissling held the position of secretary to the Chamber of Mines, but resigned it when the boom was over. Mr. Kissling has always taken great interest in public affairs, and has been identified with many local bodies. For some time he was chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board and Mayor of Parnell. He has also been a member of the Charitable Aid Board and other local bodies.
