Wilson, Hugh Munro

Wilson, Hugh Munro, Mining Engineer and Surveyor, 16 and 21 Palmerston Buildings, Queen Street, Auckland. Established in 1890. Branch offices, Thames and Whangarei. Private residence, Devonport. When very young Mr. Wilson entered the Auckland Survey Office as a cadet, and before he attained his majority had qualified as an engineer and surveyor, and was appointed County Engineer to the Rodney County Council. Here he remained about eight years, and in 1889 accepted the position of Engineer to the Waitemata County Council, which he still retains. In 1890 he established himself in private practice, and now conducts a large and flourishing business. He has branch offices at the Thames and Whangarel, and undertakes work in all parts of the province. As showing the volume of business, it may here be mentioned that for quantity of work put through the Government Offices for 1896, Mr. Wilson headed the list of surveyors in Auckland for mining surveys. In addition to mining surveys, he undertakes road and land surveying, estimating for earthworks, bridge construction, etc. Some years ago he was appointed to report on the suggested railway routes between Auckland and Wellington. He specially reported on the Whangamata and other mining properties at the Thames, and thus brought them before the notice of the public. Mr. Wilson is referred to at page 147 of this volume as engineer to the Waitemata County Council.
