Rich, Frank A.

Rich, Frank A., B.Sc., M.A.I.M.E., A.M.I.E.E., M.I.M.E., and M.C.I.M.M., Mining, Electrical and Hydranlic Engineer, and General Manager of the Woodstock Gold Mining Company, Karangahake. Mr. Rich, who is the eldest son of Mr. E. F. Rich, formerly of Exmouth, Devonshire, England, was born in Otago in 1859. He was educated in Otago and Hawke's Bay, and took first place in the New Zealand civil service examinations in 1877. Mr. Rich entered the New Zealand Government Survey Department, and remained in the department's employment for some years as staff surveyor. He subsequently went to the United State of America, where he greatly extended his knowledge of engineering, graduated at the page 469 College of Mining of the University of California, and practised his profession as a mining and electrical engineer in California and Colorado. Mr. Rich is a member of the American Institute of Mining Engineers, an Associate Member of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, a member of the North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers, and Member de Congres International des Mines et de la Metallurgie. In 1897 he returned to Auckland, and practised as a consulting mining engineer, and has been for the last three years general manager of the Woodstock Gold Mining Company. Mr. Rich was married, in 1890, to a daughter of Mr. Gerard Spooner, formerly of Elmdon, Warwickshire, England, and has one daughter.
