Kelly, A. M. and F. V.

Kelly, A. M. and F. V., Mining Surveyors, Vulcan Lane, Auckland. Branch, Coromandel. This enterprising firm was established in 1889, the business at that time mainly consisting of land transfer work and Government contract surveys. The proprietors rapidly worked up a large connection, and, when the mining boom brock out in 1895, turned their attention to the Coromandel and Knoatunu districts. After the first six months the firm were employing nine parties in the field, and had the largest number of survey nominations on the goldfields. Both the Messrs. Kelly were born in South Australia, and are sons of Mr. Adam Kelly, one of South Australia's early settlers. They received their education at Camden College, Sydney, and at the Auckland College, and served articles with the firm of Messrs. W. F. Hammond and sons, architeets and surveyors, of Auckland. Mr. A. M. Kelly, the senior partner, is very well known and popular in the province, being an enthasiast in all kinds of legitimate sport. Mr. F. V. Kelly, the junior partner, is well known in Auckland as a cricketer, having for several years represented the Auckland province in interprovineial cricket matches. He has the reputation also of being one of the best rifle shots in the district, having won innumerable trophies.
