Henderson And Spraggon

Henderson And Spraggon (Adam Henderson), Ship Builders and Spar Makers, vessels cleaned, docked and repaired, Customs Street West, Auckland. Established 1859. This business was one of the first established in Auckland, and the firm has turned out many well known vessels of the schooner class that now trade around Auckland, such as the schooners “Pacific” (60 tons), “Sea Breeze” (40 tons), “Ocean” (30 tons), “Jubilee” (40 tons), “Hikurangi” (75 tons), the s.s. “Kopurn,” built to the order of Dr. Logan Campbell for the Kaipara harbour, and many other vessels of repute. Owing to the advent of steam, the building of wooden vessels has become comparatively a thing of the past, and the firm now devotes its attention chiefly to repairing vessels and supplying spars and sails. The business was carried on by the two partners until the death of Mr. Spraggon in 1898, and has since been conducted solely by Mr. Henderson.
