a builder of successful race-winning yachts. He was born in 1867, and learned his business in his father's yards, where he helped to build yachts, the records of which are known throughout New Zealand. In 1894, Mr. W. Bailey, and his brother, Mr. C. Bailey, junior, purchased the business from their father, and entered into partnership under the title of Messrs C. and W. Bailey. The brothers carried on the business until they dissolved partnership in 1898, when Mr. Walter Bailey, in conjunction with Mr. W. Lowe, who had been for some years employed with Mr. C. Bailey, senior, and Messrs Bailey Bros., started the present firm. At first the work was done by the two partners, but the extension has been so great that now nine men are employed.
