The Union Steamship Company of New Zealand was founded in Dunedin in 1877, and since then branch offices have been opened in the main centres throughout the colony of New Zealand and also in Australia. The business in connection with the Auckland branch of the company is carried on in commodious offices at the corner of Queen and Customs Streets. They occupy the greater part of the ground floor of a large four-storey brick building, and consist of a spacious and wellarranged shipping department and the page 450 manager's office.
