Mr. S. J. Weston
Mr. S. J. Weston, Chief Engineer of the Northern Steamship Company's “Waiotahi, was born at Coventry, England, in 1859, and came with his parents to New Zealand in 1864. He was educated at the Auckland College, and served his apprenticeship with the well-known engineers, Messrs Fraser and Tinne. Mr. Weston joined the Northern Company's steamer “Iona,” as second engineer, in 1880. Two years later he was transferred to the “Douglas” as chief engineer. Since then he has had chief charge of various boats belonging to the Northern Company, and joined the “Waiotahi” in 1891. Mr. Weston is married and has a family of five.
