Mr. Alfred Everard Macindoe

Mr. Alfred Everard Macindoe Chief Engineer of the Northern Steamship Company's paddle-steamer “Wakatere,” was born in Auckland in 1870. He was apprenticed to Messrs Fr[unclear: a]ser and Tinne, the well-known Auckland engineers, and after the completion of his articles in 1891, he became second engineer on the s.s. “Merhsworted,” then belonging to the Bulli Coal Company. After being in the company's service for about a year, Mr. Macindoe went to England, and joined the Gulf Line of steamers as fifth engineer. He served four years with that company, and left while second engineer of the “Martaban,” to fill a similar position in the Northern Company's “Wakatere”—of which he is now chief engineer—and arrived in Auckland in 1896. Mr. Macindoe is an enthusiastic rower, and was a member of the Ponsonby Rowing Club for a number of years. He was married in 1891.
