Mr. Henry Greensmith Wade

Mr. Henry Greensmith Wade was born at Lenton, near Nottingham, England, in 1835; and came to Auckland by the ship “Ida Zeigler,” in 1863. Up to the time of his death, which occurred at Auckland, on the fourth day of April, 1900, he practised his profession in Auckland as one of the leading architects of the province. He also, during his long residence in the city, occupied various important commercial and civic positions, and was City Valuer for a period of ten years. Mr. Wade was one of the most prominent and exalted members of Free Masonry in Auckland. He was initiated in Lodge Waitemata, No. 689, E.C., in 1864, and held office as secretary for a period of over thirty years. He was a Past Master of his mother lodge, and was also at one time District Grand Secretary of the English Constitution for Auckland provincial district. Mr. Wade also held the office of recorder and treasurer of the Southern Cross Chapter, Rose Croix, 18th degree, and frequently held important offices in the Royal Arch Chapter, and Union Mark Masters Lodge. In connection with his own profession Mr. Wade was secretary and treasurer of the Auckland Institute of Architects.
