Mr. Robert Peace

Mr. Robert Peace, Old Colonist, Shortland Street, Auckland, was born at Greenock, Scotland, in 1821. He was educated in his native town, where he learned the business of a copper and tin worker. In 1847 he went to Newfoundland, where he carried on the business of an ironworker and stove-dealer, and remained until 1865, when he came to Auckland. Shortly after his arrival he started business as a plumber in Shortland Street, and has ever since carried on a successful trade. In 1890, Mr. Peace took his son into partnership, and in 1898 retired from business altogether in favour of his son, Mr. Colin Archibald Peace. Mr. Peace was organiser of the Auckland Burns Club, which has since passed out of existence. In 1846, previous to his departure for Newfoundland, Mr. Peace married Miss Margaret Ferguson, a native of Greenock, and she has borne him a family of eleven children, of whom eight are now (1901) alive.
