Broady, J. and Co

Broady, J. and Co. (John Broady, Charles Allan, and Alfred Martin), Wrought Iron Stove and Range Manufacturers, Plate Iron Workers and Locksmiths, Durham and Albert Streets, Auckland. Telephone 782. These extensive works were originally opened by Mr. John Broady in 1886 in rather a small way, but they page 368 have progressed so satisfactorily that the firm is now recognised as a leading one of its kind in Auckland. Owing to the extension of the business Mr. Broady took Mr. Allan and Mr. Martin into partnership in 1892. Mr. Allan had been employed in the business almost from its foundation. Since the entry of the new partners the firm's progress has been so marked that fifteen men are now constantly employed in executing orders. Three furnaces are kept always going, and the machinery is of the newest and most improved design. The firm's wrought-iron stoves are well-known through-out the North Island, and are famous for their strength, design, and durability. Many of the largest hotels in the Auckland province have had their ranges supplied from the firm, and hey gave the utmost satisfaction. The Northern Steamship Company has for years used the firm's cooking ranges in its numerous steamers. The Grand Hotel at Rotorua has one of these ranges. This particular range is over 8 feet long, and possesses all the latest improvements; it also supplies hot water throughout the hotel. It is one of the firm's large ranges which is in use at the famous eating-house at Parihaka. Fire-proof iron safes are also specialties of this energetic firm; they are equal to the best imported safes; they vary in size from the largest to the smallest, and stand the strongest fire tests. The firm received the gold medal for its exhibits at the Auckland Industrial Exhibition of 1897, and has been most successful in obtaining awards at the various provincial agricultural shows.
