Mr. John Macneil

Mr. John Macneil, the well-known and respected Manager of the Auckland branch of the firm of Briscoe and Co., was born in Perthshire, Scotland, and apprenticed to the ironmongery trade, to the study of which he has devoted his life. Prior to leaving for the colonies in 1865, Mr. Macneil took up a position in Glasgow, where he somewhat extended his experience. He arrived in New Zealand in the latter half of 1865, and took up the position of chief assistant in the Dunedin branch of the firm, which he now represents in Auckland. Mr. Macneil remained in that position for ten years, when he entered into partnership with Messrs Edmond and Forsyth, of Dunedin, the firm being known as Edmond, Forsyth, and Macneil. After the dissolution of partnership in 1882, Mr. Macneil represented the firm of Briscoe and Co. in Wellington until 1899, when he was appointed to his present responsible position.
