Mr. Ernest James Fenn

Mr. Ernest James Fenn, was born at Fletching, Sussex, England, in 1868, educated at Dover College and Borden School, Kent, and studied for his profession at Hanover Square College, London. He held positions with several English electrical engineering firms, was engineer to the Birmingham Exhibition of 1889, came to New Zealand in 1892, under engagement to the Gulcher Company of Wellington, and remained with it for two years. In 1894 he removed to Auckland, and established the electrical engineering business of Messrs John Chambers and Sons, of Fort Street, Auckland, and now has entire charge of the firm's electrical department. Mr. Fenn has lighted with electricity the “New Zealand Herald” office, the Auckland Freezing Company's works, Craig's brick works, and the Waihi, Crown, Waitekauri, Woodstock, Komata Reefs, Moanataiari and Talisman batteries, including in the last case, the transmission of power. He also supervised the lighting by electricity of the s.s. “Waimarie” and “Tani-wha,” the Auckland Exhibition of 1896, the new battery at Waikino for the Waihi Company, and the lighting of the power house and main chambers in the Crown mine.
