The Cyclopedia of New Zealand [Auckland Provincial District]

Mr. Charles Collings

Mr. Charles Collings, Junior, the Senior Partner, was born in 1857, at Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England, and served his apprenticeship as a moulder, with Messrs T. and C. Clark, the well-known hardware manufacturers. After the completion of his apprenticeship Mr. Collings came in 1883 to Auckland, where he worked in several foundries. He was subsequently, for two years, in Sydney, where he was employed in the Atlas. Iron Works. On returning to New Zealand, in 1890, he started the present business in a small way, and with determination, energy, and industry, he has advanced it to its present state of prosperity. Mr. Collings has recently returned from a twelve months' visit to England, and has brought back with him the latest and most up-to-date designs obtainable.
