Cordial Manufacturers.

Grey, John And Sons, Cordial Manufacturers, Eden Crescent, Auckland. Telephone 127. Bankers, National Bank of New Zealand. Agencies, Messrs Cummins and Co., Wanganui; Mr. Newbigin, Hastings, The well-known business of John Grey and Sons, ærated waters and cordial manufacturers, and bottlers of the famous mineral waters from the Te Aroha and other springs, was originally established fully forty years ago. To the energy and business tact of the late Mr. John Grey (father of the prasant members of the firm), through the various commercial ups and downs of the Colony, the solid building-up and continued success of the business may be attributed Mr. C. D. Grey and Mr. Walter Grey conduct the business in Auckland and Mr. Walter Grey also conducts the branch at the North Shore. Mr. John Grey, also a member of the firm, has charge of the branch at Coromandel, where there is a factory equal to the requirements of the district. The late Mr. John Grey had, for some few years previous to his death, practically handed over the control of affairs to Mr. C. D. Grey. The factory is supplied with a number of machines of the very latest patterns for preparing and bottling the waters, and can turn out 4000 dozen per day, ranging from the small soda bottles up to the quart beer bottles. One of the most important factors in the quality of all the various kinds of drinks manufactured by the firm is that the water used is taken from a spring yielding through all seasons of the year enough water to supply three factories. It is absolutely free from all impurities, but is, nevertheless, passed through the most approved filters previous to finding its way to the bottling machines. The firm holds patents for several kinds of drinks, much appreciated for their excellence and purity, and obtainable in nearly every refreshment establishment and shop in and around Auckland. For country requirements the firm supplies any kind of drink in quart and pint bottles, and at times the factory is heavily taxed to meet the demands for transit by rail and vessels, for this class of the firm's goods. At certain times in the year the town and suburban requirements for the ordinary supply to customers keep from five to six carts continually going; and, seeing that one cart can deliver 500 dozen per day, the extent of this branch of the business may be easily estimated. Mr. C. D. Grey has paid visits on two separate occasions to the European centres, including the famous Belfast ginger ale establishments, and no doubt his keenness for picking up any information likely to be of use, has, in no small degree, helped to bring the factory to its present state of perfection. Mr. Charles Grey and Mr. Walter Grey are held in high esteem in the commercial and social circles of Auckland; they both belong to the Masonic fraternity and have held high positions in their lodges. Mr. C. Grey is a member of the City Council, to which he was elected after the death of his father, who had represented his ward for many years.
