Darby, William John

Darby, William John, L.R.C.S.I., and L.M., Rotunda, Dublin, Symonds Street, Auckland. Telephone No. 276. Dr. Darby was born in Auckland in 1859 and is the eldest son of Mr. Patrick Darby, a well-known and respected citizen of Auckland. He left Auckland at the early age of fourteen years for Thurles College, County Tipperary, Ireland, and in 1881, went to Dublin and walked Mater Misericordia hospital for four years, when he gained his diplomas, and was afterwards appointed House Surgeon at Kingston hospital, near Dublin. In 1886, he went to London and practised at the East End for four years, and subsequently at Manchester and Liverpool. He returned to Auckland in 1894 and commenced practice. He is medical officer to the Druids, Hibernian Society and Foresters. Dr. Darby was married in 1894 to Miss Marle Larbry, daughter of Dr. Larbry, of Paris.
