Reid, Stuart Bathgate

Reid, Stuart Bathgate, M.A., M.B., B.C. (Cantab), M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.R.C.P. (London), Symonds Street, Auckland. Dr. Reid is a son of Mr. John Reid, well-known throughout New Zealand and Australia as the proprietor of the Elderslie estate, near Oamaru. He was born in Dunedin in 1870, and received his primary education at the Waitaki High School, under Mr. Harkness After leaving that academy, he proceeded to England, and entered St. John's College. Cambridge, where he took his degrees. Dr. Reid commenced medical practice by becoming a student at St. Thomas's Hospital, London, and subsequently obtained his diplomas of M.R.C.S. and L.R.C.P. He acted as resident house surgeon at the East London Children's Hospital, Shadwell, where he remained for nine months, and then returned to his native land. For a time he acted as locum tenens for Dr. Hayes, of Temuka, and subsequently filled a similar position for Dr. C. H. Haines, during the latter's absence in England. Dr. Reid began his practice in Auckland in 1900.
