Hooper, John Henry

Hooper, John Henry, M.R.C.S., L.S.A. (Eng.), Hobson Street, Auckland. Dr. Hooper is a son of the late Robert Little Hooper, M.D., of London, and was born there, and educated at King's College School, and St. George's Hospital, London, where he was House Surgeon in 1857, and Obstetric Assistant from 1858 to 1860. He emigrated to Auckland in 1861, commenced practice in January, 1862, and has remained in Auckland ever since. During the Waikato war, he was appointed Acting-Assistant-Surgeon under Dr. Mouat, Principal Medical Officer to the British troops, and had charge of the military hospital in the barracks, with the late Dr. McShane. He was assistant surgeon to the Auckland Cavalry Volunteers, and afterwards surgeon to the Auckland Rifle Brigade Volunteers. Dr. Hooper has been for many years surgeon to the Auckland Dispensary, and was a member for two years of the first surgical staff of Auckland Hospital.
