his career as a Wesleyan missionary. He arrived in Auckland on 17th of April, 1849, and proceeded to the Three Kings, as principal of the Maori college. In 1858, he took charge of the Maori mission station at Te Kopua on the Waipa river, from which he had to retire in 1864 during the Waikato war. He was appointed to the New Plymouth circuit, in which he spent the usual three years' term. He was afterwards successively at Lyttelton, Dunedin, Auckland. Wellington, Christchurch and again at Auckland. He was appointed principal of Three King's College in 1885, and had charge of the English theological students and Maori students. He died there on the 25th of August, 1891, and was buried at Waikomiti. Mr. Reid was president of the Wesleyan conference in 1876. In 1881, he had the honour of being unanimously elected representative of the first Ecumenical page 233 Methodist conference, held in London. He left a widow with a family of five daughters and one son.
