Pitt Street Wesleyan Church

Pitt Street Wesleyan Church. This church, which is the Cathedral of Methodism in Auckland, occupies the corner block of Pitt Street and Karangahape Road. The building is of brick, with white stone facings, and is lighted by large Gothic windows. Its foundation stone was laid by the Hon. T. Russell, on the Prince of Wales's Birthday, 1865, and the church was dedicated on the 14th of October, 1866. Adjoining the church is the Sunday school, now known as Wesley all, containing a suite of class-rooms; this was opened in April, 1877, at a cost of £1250. The parsonage faces on Karangahape Road, and adjoins the school. Altogether about £20,000 has been expended on buildings on this site, with the result that Methodism in Auckland has one of the most complete suites of ecclesiastical premises to be found in the Australasian Connexion.
